Kristen Velyvis has more than 20 years of experience in reproductive health, qualitative and quantitative data collection, and monitoring and evaluation in the United States and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Velyvis is currently the survey director for the impact evaluation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s Namibia Vocational and Skills Training effort, an initiative that focuses on expanding the availability, quality, and relevance of vocational education in Namibia. In addition, she serves as the deputy survey director for two multimillion dollar impact evaluations of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-funded teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease prevention programs.
Velyvis has also conducted research on reproductive health among women and girls in the context of HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Population Council, the Social Science Research Council, and as a National Institutes for Health Trainee. She has led numerous qualitative and quantitative data collection efforts on health and related topics domestically and internationally. She has experience with many evaluation methods, from rigorous impact and outcomes evaluations to qualitative process and implementation evaluations. In addition, she has led the design of monitoring and evaluation frameworks and conducted capacity-building workshops in Sub-Saharan Africa. Recently, she worked on a project to develop and deliver a four-day monitoring and evaluation capacity-building workshop for more than 60 USAID staff and partners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Velyvis, who joined Mathematica in 2008, holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
